Remodel, Addition & New Construction Wiring

Remodel electrical is where code changes catch people out. A kitchen that was compliant in 1998 needs dedicated small-appliance circuits, GFCI protection, AFCI protection and correct receptacle spacing today. APEX Electric handles remodel and addition wiring end to end — design, rough-in, inspection, trim-out.

Circuit planning before drywall

The cheapest time to add a circuit is before the drywall goes up, and the most expensive time is eighteen months later. We plan the panel schedule against how the finished space will be used, not just the minimum the code will pass.

Kitchens need at least two 20-amp small-appliance circuits plus dedicated runs for the dishwasher, disposal, microwave and refrigerator. Basements need AFCI protection, egress lighting and often a sump circuit. We map all of it before the first staple goes in.

Working alongside your other trades

Electrical rough-in has to land between framing and insulation, and the schedule slips when it does not. We coordinate directly with your general contractor, HVAC and plumber so the rough inspection is not the thing holding up the job.

If you are managing the project yourself, we will tell you plainly what has to happen before we can start and what we need from the other trades.

Permits and inspections

Every municipality in St. Charles County requires a permit for new circuits. Unpermitted work surfaces at resale, and it is far more expensive to open a finished wall to prove compliance than to have it inspected once.

The permit gets pulled, we meet the inspector at rough and final, and hand over the signed card at completion.

Questions

Remodels & Additions
questions.

The things people ask us most about this work.

Regularly. We are comfortable as the electrical subcontractor on a larger remodel and coordinate our rough-in and trim schedule with the GC directly.

Twice. Rough-in happens after framing and before insulation and drywall. Trim-out happens after paint, when devices, fixtures and covers go in.

Yes. Both require a GFCI-protected dedicated circuit, correct bonding of the surrounding metal, and a disconnect at a code-specified distance. It is a permitted, inspected install.

Sometimes. A finished basement or a kitchen with several new dedicated circuits can exhaust a 100-amp service. We run the load calculation up front so it is not a surprise mid-project.
