A Level 2 charger turns an overnight top-up from a trickle into a full battery. APEX Electric installs hardwired and plug-in EV chargers throughout St. Charles County — Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, Emporia, Grizzl-E and any universal J1772 unit — on a properly sized dedicated circuit with the permit pulled and the work inspected.
A Level 2 charger is a continuous load, which means the circuit has to be rated for 125% of the charger's draw. A 48-amp charger needs a 60-amp circuit and the conductors to match. Undersized installs are the single most common problem we are called out to correct.
Before we quote, we run a service load calculation on your existing panel. That tells us whether the service can carry the charger outright, whether a load-management device is the smarter answer, or whether a panel upgrade should come first.
Hardwiring supports the highest charge rates and is required outdoors in many jurisdictions. A NEMA 14-50 receptacle is more flexible if you expect to move or change vehicles, and lets you take the charger with you.
We install both. If you go with a receptacle, we use an industrial-grade device — the commodity 14-50 outlets sold for occasional RV use are a known failure point under daily EV load.
A full panel does not automatically mean a service upgrade. Load-management devices and energy management systems can share an existing circuit with a dryer or range, or throttle the charger when household demand peaks.

Yes. A detached structure needs a properly sized feeder and its own grounding electrode system. We handle the trenching or overhead run, the sub-panel and the charger circuit as one project.
Yes — every municipality in the area requires one for a new dedicated circuit. We pull it and meet the inspector. It also matters for rebates and for your homeowner's insurance.
Charging at home is meaningfully cheaper per mile than public DC fast charging. If you are on a time-of-use rate, most chargers can be scheduled to run in the off-peak window, which we set up during commissioning.
